Lightning Split First Two of St. Joe's Invitational

A weekend full of volleyball started off well on Friday for the Lehman Lightning as they split two games during the first day of the St. Joseph's Invitational on Long Island.

First up for the Lightning was host St. Joseph's, who rode 15 kills from Ashleigh Scully to take the match in straight sets 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19. Gerri-Ann Martin led Lehman with nine kills while Besa Zabelaj chipped in seven kills and Vanessa Brown six.

The Lightning bounced back with a strong four set win in the second match versus the Rams of Farmingdale State, who entered in second place in the Skyline Conference at 8-3 overall. Martin and Brown were again at the forefront for Lehman as both produced double-doubles in kills and digs – 12 and 19 for Martin and 10 and 16 for Brown. Also crucial to the win was a six-kill, 13-dig performance from Zabelaj and 22 digs from captain Jennifer Winkler.

The St. Joseph's Invitational continues on Saturday for Lehman as they face the City College of New York and St. Joseph's College – Brooklyn.
