Lightning Plant Seed With Win Over Brooklyn

Possible Playoff Matchup Goes to Lehman

If Tuesday night's match between the Lightning and Bulldogs is a preview of the upcoming CUNYAC Championship Quarterfinals, when both teams could potentially meet again, consider volleyball fans lucky.

In earning the five set victory (25-22, 16-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-8), Lehman received contributions from just about everyone who entered the match. Gerri-Ann Martin once again led the attack, recording 15 kills, but also was a force defensively as she led her squad with 24 digs.

Sophomore Besa Zabelaj continues to impress as the season wears on, compiling seven kills, two blocks and 16 digs. More important, however, was her work from the service line where she recorded five aces and came up with quality serves in big situations in the first, third and fifth sets.

The Lightning received their usual strong play from Lisa Jagdeo (30 assists, 11 digs), Vanessa Brown (seven kills, three service aces, 12 digs) and Jennifer Winkler (18 digs). Senior Lakeisha Gordon, who has been turning it on at just the right time for the Lightning, was solid again with six kills, a dig and a block.

Lehman stays in Brooklyn for their next match, this time against St. Joseph's, which is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
