Oct. 19, 2011

Box Score

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Lightning women's volleyball team pushed non-conference opponent Manhattanville to five sets on Wednesday night before losing 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 24-26, 25-15, 17-15) to drop its record to 11-8 on the season.

Despite the loss, several Lightning players stuffed the stat sheet.  Senior Gerri-Ann Martin produced a monster game, pounding out 22 kills to go along with 27 digs.  Shari Quiles added 16 digs and 25 digs.  Senior setter Jasmine Bermudez set a season-high with 47 assists while freshman Jo-Marie Aquino continued her solid play, contributing 13 kills.

Also notching big numbers were Shayla Tompkins with 25 digs and junior Stephanie Novas, who saw extended playing time and notched 10 digs.

After four grueling sets, Lehman had a chance to close out the match leading 14-12 in the fifth set.  However, the Valiants rallied back to take a 15-14 lead.  A kill by Gerri-Ann Martin kept the Lightning alive by tying the score, but an attack error by Lehman and a kill by Manhattanville's Susy Camaj ended the match.

Lehman returns to action on Saturday on Saturday when it will play two matches on the campus of William Paterson University against the host Pioneers and Misericordia University.
