PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Lightning women's volleyball team pushed non-conference opponent Manhattanville to five sets on Wednesday night before losing 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 24-26, 25-15, 17-15) to drop its record to 11-8 on the season.
Despite the loss, several Lightning players stuffed the stat sheet. Senior
Gerri-Ann Martin produced a monster game, pounding out 22 kills to go along with 27 digs.
Shari Quiles added 16 digs and 25 digs. Senior setter
Jasmine Bermudez set a season-high with 47 assists while freshman
Jo-Marie Aquino continued her solid play, contributing 13 kills.
Also notching big numbers were
Shayla Tompkins with 25 digs and junior
Stephanie Novas, who saw extended playing time and notched 10 digs.
After four grueling sets, Lehman had a chance to close out the match leading 14-12 in the fifth set. However, the Valiants rallied back to take a 15-14 lead. A kill by
Gerri-Ann Martin kept the Lightning alive by tying the score, but an attack error by Lehman and a kill by Manhattanville's Susy Camaj ended the match.
Lehman returns to action on Saturday on Saturday when it will play two matches on the campus of William Paterson University against the host Pioneers and Misericordia University.
