NEW YORK, N.Y. - Led by the senior trio of Gerri Ann Martin, Jennifer Winkler and Jasmine Bermudez and holding the No. 3 seed, there was a thought that this was as good a time as any for the Lehman Lightning to ascend beyond the semifinal round of the CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Championships.

The only thing standing in its way was the No. 2 seed, Baruch College, who had beaten Lehman earlier in the season in straight sets but who didn't exactly run through the Lightning while earning the victory.

Unfortunately, Thursday's match ended in similar fashion with Baruch once again putting the Lightning down in three sets to end Lehman's season and drop it under .500 overall at 13-14.

Looking every bit the part of the favorite in the early going, Baruch cruised to a 25-11 first set win.  Lehman eventually settled down, but the experience and depth of the Bearcats won out in the end with Baruch taking the second set 25-17 and the third 25-16.

In their final match for the Lightning, Martin led Lehman with 10 kills, while Winkler added a team-high 14 digs and Bermudez handed out 14 assists.  Freshman Jo-Marie Aquino provided quality play for the Lightning with four kills and four digs.  Shari Quiles collected 11 digs in the loss.

The victorious Bearcats were led by Megan Moody's 12 kills and setter Melinda Santiago's 31 assists and 12 digs.
