Women's Tennis Gets Off to Rocky Start

Sept. 9, 2011

BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman women's tennis team opened its season in tough fashion on Friday afternoon, capturing only four games in losing 9-0 to host Rutgers-Newark.

The Lightning's best showing came in No. 2 doubles where Nellya Blinova and Patricia Cadet fell to the Scarlet Raiders combo of Ashley Lawrence and Adrianne Vizcarra 8-2. In No. 1 doubles competition the Lightning's two returnees, Daraliz Collado and Ravnit Bhatia, were set down handily, losing 8-0.

On the singles side, the Lightning was shut out except for Blinova, who managed to grab two games from her opponent, Camille Sunga, before losing 6-1, 6-1. Cadet, Lehman's No. 4, scored a game from her opponent Michelle Kvitnitsky on the way to a 6-1, 6-0 defeat.

The Lightning was forced to forfeit both No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Lehman is right back on the court Saturday afternoon when it hosts St. Joseph's College (LI).
