NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Lehman women's tennis team looked to break into the win column on Friday afternoon as it visited the College of New Rochelle for a non-conference tennis match.
Instead it dropped its third straight decision, 5-4, to open the 2011 season.
The Lightning actually took three of the five singles matches played and split its two doubles matches, but ultimately was undone by having to forfeit No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Lehman's top three singles players on the day –
Ravnit Bhatia,
Daraliz Collado and
Marisela Camano – each topped their opponents with Bhatia winning 10-5, Collado 10-2 and Camano 10-1.
The No. 1 combination of Bhatia and Collado earned the Lightning's lone doubles win as they defeated Delnisha Baker and Karolyn Guzman 8-1.
Lehman faces a huge challenge on Monday afternoon when defending champion Hunter College visits the Bronx.
