Sept. 17, 2011

MAHWAH, N.J.
- Competing in a marathon day of volleyball as part of a quad match on the campus of Ramapo College, the Lightning managed to earn a win in three tries against opponents Ramapo, St. Joseph's (LI) and John Jay on Saturday afternoon – its lone win a conference victory over the Bloodhounds – to drop its record to 2-6 on the season.

Lehman started the day by falling in straight sets to New Jersey Athletic Conference power Ramapo 25-11, 25-7, 25-17. It then followed that up with a tough luck five set loss to the St. Joseph's Eagles (18-25, 25-18, 25-27, 25-13, 15-11) before closing out the day with a three set win over John Jay (25-20, 25-20, 25-4).

The Lightning's hard fought loss to the Eagles included strong performances by several of its players including Gerri-Ann Martin (18 kills, 14 digs), Shari Quiles (9 kills, 15 digs), Jasmine Bermudez (35 assists, 6 service aces), and Jennifer Winkler (7 kills, 8 digs). Freshman Julia Mercado contributed 10 digs.

Lehman's win over John Jay featured several new faces stepping to the forefront while veterans like Martin and Winkler received a much needed break. Sophomore Anna Gura slammed seven kills to lead the team while also registering three service aces, and junior Betsy Abril picked up the slack for No. 1 setter Jasmine Bermudez by tallying 18 assists.

On Tuesday night the Lightning travels to Queens for a conference match with York College.
