BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman College Athletics Department is proud to announce Lehman men's basketball guard George Nimmons and Lehman women's basketball forward/center Jaleesa Gordon as the Lehman Athletes of the Week for the period spanning January 2 through January 8.

Nimmons has taken on a greater role in the Lightning attack of late, having started five consecutive games beginning with the team's contest against Montclair State University on December 29.  Shown more confidence from the coaching staff, Nimmons posted his best game of the season against CUNYAC rival John Jay College on January 6, an 87-72 Lightning win. In 36 minutes of action, he led the way with 25 points, including 4-of-4 from three-point range, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Prior to his breakout performance, Nimmons was solid in games against SUNY Maritime on January 2 with seven points, five rebounds and three assists, and against St. Joseph's (BK) on January 4 with 13 points.  The team went 2-1 for the week.

Gordon played similarly well for the Lady Lightning, helping propel the Lightning to a 2-0 week. Against Polytechnic Institute of New York University she scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots and shot 53 percent from the field.  Her best all-around game, like Nimmons, happened against the Bloodhounds.  The Lightning senior stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Due to her performances in these two games she was also named the CUNYAC Player of the Week.
