QUEENS, N.Y. – After multiple delays and venue changes, the Lehman College women's tennis team concluded the regular season today with a 6-3 loss at York College. Today's match had been previously rained out and rescheduled for today, then began at York's tennis courts, and moved to the indoor courts at the US National Tennis Center for completion.
With the loss, Lehman ends the regular season with an overall record of 7-9 overall, and 3-5 inside the CUNYAC. Lehman has qualified for the upcoming CUNYAC Championships as the number six seed, and will travel to face the third seed, Staten Island, on Wednesday, October 17. Further details will be announced on Tuesday.
Tonight, York (4-8, 3-5 CUNYAC) took two of the three doubles matches, with only Lehman freshman
Neralda Zuniga (New York, N.Y./Dual Language & Asian Studies) and sophomore
Jamie Minchala (Ozone Park, N.Y./Richmond Hill) winning at third, 8-1.
During the singles action, rain began falling. With the conference championships set to begin in less than 48 hours, the match needed to be completed. The teams traveled to Flushing to the home of the U.S. Open, and the match concluded indoors.
Sophomore
Nellya Blinova (New York, N.Y./Moscow/Russia) won at first singles, 7-5, 6-2, and Zuniga won at sixth singles, 6-4, 6-3. However, York claimed three more singles matches, handing the Cardinals the ultimate result. Sophomore
