Box Score 2 NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Lehman College women's volleyball team split at the City University of New York Athletic Conference multi-match held at Baruch College Monday afternoon. The Lightning dropped their first game against Baruch but ended their five-game losing streak as they turned down the Cardinals of York College.
In the first match against the Bearcats, the Lightning were lead by middle blocker
Cari English, who tallied a team-high of five kills and a game-high of five solo blocks. Five Kills and seven digs were also contributed by Sophmore
Jo-Marie Aquino along with 10 assists by
Imani Dubois in the losing effort.
Baruch was led by Jessica Wu who tallied a game-high of 12 kills along with McKenzie Davidson who dropped eight kills in the match. Ultimately the Bearcats overpowered the Lightning in all three sets winning 25-15, 25-11, 25-11.
The Lightning sought to redeem themselves when it came to facing the highly underestimated York College in the second match of the day. Despite their unimpressive overall record, the Cardinals left the Lightning dismayed as they won the first set.
The Lightning quickly realized that the Cardinals weren't to be taken lightly and returned to the second set ready for battle. Lehman would go on to triumph against York in the next three sets- 25-19, 25-14, 25-16- ending their losing streak.
Leading the Lightning once again was English with a whopping game-high of 17 kills. Aquino added 10 kills along with 12 digs along with Dubois who tallied 28 assists.
The Lightning now boost their record 9-10 overall and 4-2 in conference. Lehman will return to the courts on Saturday as they travel away to face SUNY Farmingdale and Rutgers-Camden in a nonconference doubleheader.
