NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team had its season come to an end on Friday night, falling to top seeded Baruch College 3-0 in the Semifinal Round of the 2012 CUNY Athletic Conference/Con Edison Championships. Set scores were 25-18, 25-11, 25-17. Lehman concludes the season with a final record of 13-15.
Baruch advances to the Finals to face archrival and number two seed Hunter College, who defeated #3 CCNY, 3-1, earlier of Friday afternoon.
Baruch took the first set 25-18, and led from the initial serve. Sophomore Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had two of her game-high four service aces and two kills in that set.
In the second set, Lehman had an early lead on kills by sophomore Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and Aquino. Baruch would then go on a 5-0 run and went on from there.
In the final set, Lehman matched Baruch, point for point, with Baruch holding the slimmest of leads at 12-11. The Bearcats then went on a 6-0 run, and seized control. Lehman would get close at 20-15, but no closer.
For the match, Aquino led the Lightning with seven kills and nine digs. Freshman Imani Dubois (Bronx, N.Y./J.P. Taravella) had 12 assists and five digs.
