Lightning Women's Volleyball Dominates Purchase College

The Lehman College women's volleyball team had a clean sweep on Thursday night, beating Purchase College in straight sets, 25-18, 25-16, 25-15. Lehman now has an even record at 5-5, while Purchase is 1-6.

The Lightning continued its torrid play in the service game, dishing 18 service aces. Entering this week, Lehman was ranked eleventh in NCAA Division III in the category with 3.55 aces per set. Tonight, six different players served up aces.

Leading the charge for Lehman was senior Vanessa Brown (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman HS), who had nine kills on the night while hitting .500. Sophomore Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) added six kills and three aces while classmate Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had five kills and four aces. Freshman Imani Dubois (Bronx, N.Y./JP Taravella) had 19 assists and sophomore Julia Mercado (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had 11 digs.

There is no rest for the Lightning, who play again tomorrow at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y., at 6:00 p.m.
