BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's tennis opened the season with a win today, beating NYU-Polytechnic, 7-2, in a match played at the Lehman College APEX.
The Lightning got off to a great start, sweeping all three doubles matches. At first doubles,
Nellya Blinova (New York, N.Y./Moscow, Russia) teamed with
Marisela Camano (Rosedale, N.Y./Humanities and the Arts) to win 8-2, while
Patricia Cadet (New York, N.Y./Clara Barton) and
Aminat Adebayo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Erasmus) won at second by the same score.
Danielle Buckley (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman HS) and
Neralda Zuniga (New York, N.Y./Dual Language and Asian Studies) swept third doubles 8-0.
In singles action, winners were Blinova at first (6-0, 6-0), Cadet at third (6-1, 6-2),
Fiona Crowley (Yonkers, N.Y./Ursuline) at fifth 6-1, 6-2, and
Jamie Minchala (Ozone Park, N.Y./Richmond Hill) at sixth 6-0, 6-1.
Poly claimed wins at second and fourth singles, by Khrystyna Machalaba and Stephanie Curbo.
Next on the schedule for the Lightning is a trip to St. Joseph's of Long Island tomorrow.
