Aces Abound as Women's Volleyball Wins at CSI, 3-0

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Behind 25 service aces, the Lehman College women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to five straight, with a 3-0 win at host Staten Island on Thursday night. Eight different Lightning players recorded kills, as the Lightning won 25-15, 25-14, 25-9. Lehman is now 19-6 overall, and 6-1 and in second place inside the CUNY Athletic Conference.

The Lightning are currently tied for second in the country in aces per set, averaging 3.51. With 25 aces in just three sets at CSI, Lehman's average will jump this week.

Tonight, Lehman was never tested. To begin the evening, Lehman jumped out to an 8-0 lead, as junior Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) served up four consecutive service aces during that stretch. She finished the night with eight aces. Senior Besa Zabelaj (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) paced the attack with nine kills, while English added eight.

Sophomore Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) led the team with seven digs, while junior Jessica Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre) had a match-high 26 assists.

The Lightning will look for win number 20 on Saturday, travelling north to Purchase, N.Y., to face Manhattanville College at noon.
