Women's Volleyball Fights Through for Wild 3-2 Win at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a wild women's volleyball match that featured multiple lead changes, Lehman College persevered and defeated host Manhattanville College in non-league action, on Saturday, 3-2. Set scores were 25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 15-11. Lehman is now 20-6, while Manhattanville drops to 16-15.

Leading the attack for Lehman was junior Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), who amassed a whopping 23 kills and a match-high 32 digs. She added three total blocks. Also leading Lehman was classmate Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), who added 11 kills and four blocks. Junior Jessica Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre) recorded 50 assists, on Lehman's 57 kills.

The match showcased two of the top five teams in the country in service aces, with Lehman winning that battle, 11-6.

Lehman will conclude the regular season with perhaps the biggest match of the season, on Tuesday, October 29. The Lightning will host CUNYAC foe Hunter College, where the winner will take second place in the conference. Prior to the match, Lehman will honor senior Besa Zabelaj (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), who will be playing in her final regular season home game for Lehman.
