BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman college women's volleyball team dropped its final match of the regular season on Tuesday night to Hunter College, in straight sets. As a result, the Lightning have clinched the third seed in the upcoming CUNY Athletic Conference Championships while the Hawks earned the second slot.

Set scores tonight were 25-10, 25-21, 25-19. Lehman (20-7, 6-2 CUNYAC) started out very slowly, and Hunter (15-11, 7-1 CUNYAC) took full advantage. After dropping the first two sets, the Lightning jumped out to an early lead in the third, but the Hawks would rally to claim the set and the match.

Lehman junior outside hitter Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) led the Lightning with ten kills and three service aces. Classmate Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) added five kills and four solo blocks. Sophomore Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) and junior Julia Mercado (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) each added ten digs.

Prior to the match, Lehman honored the team's sole senior, Besa Zabelaj (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) with a brief Senior Day ceremony. This was Zabelaj's final regular season home game.

The Lightning will begin CUNYAC Championship play next Tuesday, November 5, when Lehman hosts the number six seed, which will be either York or John Jay in the Quarterfinal Round. The opening serve is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., in the APEX.
