Women's Volleyball Drops Hammer on Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team got back in the win column tonight, sweeping host Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0, in a match played on Noyes Court. The entire match lasted 54 minutes, with scores of 25-9, 25-9, 25-10.

In the first game, SLC (2-16) got off to a quick start, taking a 3-0 lead. Lehman then went on a 16-1 run, sparked by kills from Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), and Besa Zabelaj (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains).

In the second, a 12-1 run for the Lightning did the trick, while in the third, Lehman led 9-2 and never looked back.

On the evening, Aquino and English hit the ball extremely well. Aquino hit .600 and English .500, as each had seven kills. Zabelaj had six kills and hit .600. Lehman served up 16 aces, led by six each from English and Jessica Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre).

The Lightning have a quick turn around, and will play at the College of New Rochelle on Saturday, facing the hosts and Ramapo College of New Jersey.
