NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – It was a split afternoon for the Lehman College women's volleyball team, as the Lightning defeated the host College of New Rochelle, 3-1, before dropping to Ramapo (N.J.) College, 3-0. The non-conference tri-match was held in the CNR Wellness Center.
Lehman is now 13-5 on the season overall.
In the opener, Lehman held off a tough CNR squad, as all four sets were very competitive. Lehman took the first set 25-22, before dropping the second, 25-18. The third set went 25-23, and the fourth and final set went 25-22.
Junior Carl English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had 15 kills and five total blocks, while classmate Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had 13 kills and a team-high 21 digs. Junior Jessica Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre) had a match-high 41 assists.
In the second match, Aquino and freshman hitter Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy) each had five kills.
After a few weeks on the road, the team returns to the APEX on Tuesday, October 8, hosting SUNY Old Westbury at 7:00 p.m.
