Women's Volleyball Sweeps John Jay and Medgar Evers

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team got off to great start in the CUNY Athletic Conference, sweeping foes John Jay and Medgar Evers, by identical 3-0 scores. The matches were part of the season-opening CUNYAC Multi-Match, held at York College, on Saturday.

Lehman has now won three consecutive matches, and is 5-2 overall, including 2-0 in the CUNYAC.

Against John Jay, Lehman was handed a 1-0 lead, as John Jay arrived late. From there, the Lightning easily dispatched the Bloodhounds in straight sets.

In the nightcap, junior Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and freshman Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy) each had five kills, while junior Jessica Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre) led the way with nine assists. Classmate Julia Mercado (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had a match-high 16 digs.

Up next, Lehman will travel to City College on Tuesday, September 17, for a 7:00 p.m. start.
