Lehman is now 11-2 on the season overall, including wins in nine consecutive matches at this point. Inside the CUNY Athletic Conference, Lehman is now 4-0, and tied for first place in the nine-team league.
The Lightning knocked off conference foe Brooklyn College, 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-14) to remain undefeated in CUNY Athletic Conference play. Junior middle hitter Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) registered five kills and six service aces. The Lightning recorded 15 service aces as a team.
The first set was the most competitive of the match, as the Bulldogs (5-5, 1-3 CUNYAC) and Lightning exchanged five lead changes, with nine ties. Lehman would come out on top in the back-and-forth first set, and go on to cruise to victories in sets two and three to win the key conference match.
In the nightcap, the Lightning swept Pratt Institute, 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 26-24). English paved the way with eight kills. Freshman middle hitter Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy) and sophomore outside hitter Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) each tallied five kills.
Lehman won the first two sets quickly, then, in the third, Pratt (3-4, 1-2 HVIAC) staged a rally to tie the game at 24, but Lehman would regain their swagger and score the final two points to win the game and the match.
Lehman will try to extend the winning streak on Saturday, September 28, when the team takes part in a tri-match on the road. In match one, the Lightning battle Montclair State University at 1:00 p.m., then, Lehman will duke it out with host Mount Saint Mary College, at 3:00 p.m. Both games will take place in Newburgh, N.Y.
