NEWBURGH, N.Y.- The Lehman College women's volleyball team's nine game winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon as the Lightning dropped both contests at the Mount Saint Mary College tri-match. The Lightning were defeated by Montclair State University, 3-1, while losing in straight sets to host MSMC in the second.
Junior Outside Hitter Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) led the way for the Lightning in the first match with 16 kills. Lehman dropped the first two sets but won the third set in a tight back and forth exchange. Lehman fell short in the fourth and final set.
Against the host Knights, Aquino had seven kills and eight digs, while classmate Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had five kills and four solo blocks.
The Lightning fall to 11-4, but remain 4-0 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.
Up next, Lehman will be on the road again when they travel to Sarah Lawrence University on Friday, October 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
