BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team hit a dry spell in the first half on Friday night at Hunter College, and never recovered, falling to the Hawks, 79-64.
Hunter (8-10, 4-6 CUNYAC) has now swept Lehman (10-8, 5-5 CUNYAC) in the season series, and would hold any potential head-to-head tiebreakers.
Both teams played well early, and traded baskets for the first 10 minutes. Senior Kelvin Gil (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) drained a three-pointer at the 9:20 mark, giving Lehman a slim, 20-19, lead. From there, Hunter went on a 10-0 run, seizing control. The lead would swell to 14 points in the first half, before the score rested at 40-30 at the half, in favor of the hosts.
In the second half, Lehman managed to trim the lead to seven points, but would get no closer. Hunter shot the ball exceptionally, well, making 24 of their 42 shots from the field, a shooting percentage of 58.5%.
On the evening, sophomore Jerrome Jones (Bronx, N.Y./Mt. Vernon) led the way with 23 points and six rebounds, while Gil managed ten points.
Lehman will host Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday, January 29, in the final non-conference game of the season.
