BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's tennis team concluded the regular season in grand fashion, by defeating the College of New Rochelle, 9-0, on the APEX tennis courts, on Friday afternoon.
Freshman
Elizaveta Ostanina (St. Petersburg, Russia/APRCHS) earned her first two collegiate victories by winning at #6 singles and at #3 doubles. In her singles match, the first set was even at 6-6, so a seven point tiebreaker was used to determine the winner of the set. Ostanina won the tiebreaker, 9-7, to clinch the first. She won the second set, 6-2, to earn the singles match victory. She won her doubles match with junior
Danielle Buckley (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.), 8-3.
Sophomore
Lynessa George (Bronx, N.Y./New Covenant Christian) won at #1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Classmate
Kantomalala Rasedoara (Woodside, N.Y./Newcomers) swept her #2 singles match with perfect set scores. George and Rasedoara won at #1 doubles, 8-0.
Junior
Natalie Carrasquillo (Bronx, N.Y./In-Tech Academy) won the third singles match, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore
Taylor-Marie Soriano (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack) earned a victory at #4 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Both Carrasquilo and Soriano teamed up to earn a victory at #2 doubles, 8-4.
Junior
Katherine Otero (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx H.S. of Business) was also a winner, claiming the fifth singles match, 6-1, 6-3.
The Lightning have now concluded the regular season, and will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on the Bulldogs in the Quarterfinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
