QUEENS, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's tennis team has now won two of its last three matches, as the Lightning defeated host St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 5-4, on Tuesday night. The match was played at the US Tennis Association's National Tennis Center.
Lehman jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles, as the teams of sophomore Lynessa George (Bronx, N.Y./New Covenant Christian)/sophomore Kantomalala Rasedoara (Woodside, N.Y./Newcomers) and junior Natalie Carrasquillo (Bronx, N.Y./In-Tech)/junior Danielle Buckley (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman HS) won at first and third, respectively.
Moving onto the singles action, the Lightning claimed wins at first, second, and sixth singles for the win.
Rasedoara was the first match to finish, winning 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. Danielle Buckley followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at sixth, putting Lehman ahead, 4-1. Then, SJC rallied.
The Bears won at fifth singles, then third singles, and suddenly the score was 4-3, with two matches remaining.
George clinched the match with a hard-fought, come-from-behind three set win at first singles, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Lehman is now 2-4 on the season, and will host CUNYAC opponent John Jay College on Wednesday, October 1, at 4:00 p.m.
