Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team fell to the College of Mount Saint Vincent in straight sets, on Tuesday evening, in the APEX Main Gym. Set scores were 25-23, 25-23, and 25-17.
After dropping the first set, Lehman (7-9) trailed 22-13 in the second but surged for a 9-0 run, highlighted by three consecutive service aces from sophomore middle blocker
Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy), to tie the set at 22. The Dolphins (5-9) would counter by scoring three of the last four points to win the set and put Lehman on the brink.
In the third set, senior opposite hitter
Maria Richiez-Paredes (Bronx, N.Y./Notre Dame School) tallied back-to-back kills, followed by a kill from senior middle blocker
Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) to shrink the Dolphins' lead to 15-14. English's service ace knotted the set at 16. After Lehman jumped out to a 17-16 advantage, Mount Saint Vincent scored the last nine points to clinch the set and the match.
English led the way for the Lightning with nine kills, seven digs, two solo blocks, and two service aces. Gonzalez, the reigning CUNY Athletic Conference/Pepsi Player of the Week, tallied eight kills and three service aces.
Lehman will be back in action on Wednesday, October 8, for a non-conference contest at Old Westbury. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
