Box Score PACHOGUE, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team dropped a straight set, 3-0, decision at St. Joseph's College of Long Island on Tuesday night. Set scores were 25-12, 25-11, and 25-20.
In the first set, a kill by senior Julia Mercado (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) pulled Lehman to within 10-7 before a 7-1 run for SJC (5-1) pushed them on to claim the set. The Lightning (2-6) led early in the second set, and were within one point, at 6-5. From there, a 6-1 run for the Eagles allowed them to take a 2-0 lead.
The third set was a tight affair, as junior setter Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) served up an ace as Lehman trailed 16-14. Shortly thereafter, a service ace by freshman Lizette Medina (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) pulled Lehman to within three, at 23-20. From there, SJC ran off the last two points to earn the match.
On the night, senior blocker Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) led Lehman with five kills. Mercado notched seven digs, while Dubois totaled eight assists and two service aces.
Lehman turns right around and will play at Purchase College on Wednesday night, at 7:00 p.m.
