Women's Volleyball Falters in Opening Match of Kings Point Invite

The Lightning (8-9) dropped a hard fought five set match to John Jay (5-9) in the opening round of the Kings Point Volleyball Invitational. The match, although against a CUNYAC opponent does not count in the conference standings. Earlier this year the Lightning prevailed in a five set conference match against the Bloodhounds.

Lehman jumped on top in the first set cruising to a 25-21 victory thanks in part to winning the final four points of the set. However, in the second set, John Jay evened the score with a 25-21 victory. The Lightning were able to jump out to a 5-0 lead but could not sustain the momentum after the Bloodhounds called time out. John Jay continued its hot streak in the third set with a 25-20 victory. The Bloodhounds started the set by going on a 10-2 and did not look back. Lehman rallied to win the fourth set 25-22. However in the fifth and deciding set, John Jay prevailed 15-9.

Jo-Marie Aquino and Salveira Gonzalez recorded 19 kills apiece while Imani Dubois recorded a season high 37 assists. Aquino also added a team high 29 digs.

The Lightning still play two more matches tomorrow, to round out the tournament. Lehman will take on Kean at 9:00 A.M. and battle host USMMA at 11:00 A.M.
