Miller Leads Lightning in Downing Previously Unbeaten US Coast Guard Academy

Box Score

Bronx, NY - Chaun Miller tied his career high with 30 points, 19 in the second half as the Lehman (2-2) earned a hard fought come from behind 86-76 victory over the US Coast Guard Academy (2-1).

Team mates Andrew Utate netted 21 points while Niv Solomon recorded his first double double of the season scoring 21 points while grabbing a game high 16 rebounds.

The Lightning put the game's first four points on the board but then the Bears went on 29-10 run that eclipsed more than 11 minutes of play.  The Lightning would answer with an 11-0 spurt that brought them right back into the game.  The Coast Guard was able to stretch their advantage back to seven (41-34) by halftime.

In the second half it was all Lehman as the Lightning outscored the Bears 52-35.  The Lightning shot a blistering 19 of 30 from the field including six for 11 behind the arc as well as netting eight of nine free throws.  Lehman took their first lead of the second half, 47-46 on a John Brens jumper with 15:38 remaining, and never trailed the rest of the way.  Back to back three pointers by Utate and Elbez quickly pushed the Lehman advantage to seven.  Midway through the second half the Bears were able to bring the deficit down to two (57-55).  However, the Lightning would answer with a 15-4 run of their own to extend the lead to 72-59 with 5:43 to play.  The Bears were able to cut the lead down to seven on two occasions but were unable to get any closer.

Kevin Alvarez led a quartet of Bears in double figures with 20 points.

The Lightning begin CUNYAC league play on Tuesday night at John Jay.  Tip-off against the Bloodhounds is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
