Box Score 2 NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team opened CUNY Athletic Conference play at the conference multi-match, hosted by the City College of New York on Saturday afternoon. The Lightning earned a victory over CCNY, 3-1, but fell to Baruch in straight sets.
In the opening match against CCNY, set scores were 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-17. After dropping the first set, the Lightning rallied to win the next three to earn their first CUNYAC win of the year. In the second set, Lehman scored seven unanswered points, highlighted by a kill from senior setter
Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) and a service ace from senior outside hitter
Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) to put Lehman up 11-3. That would be the turning point as Lehman evened the match at one.
After winning the third set, Lehman took control in the fourth, thanks to scoring six unanswered points, with three of them scored on kills by Aquino, and the last two scored on service aces by junior opposite hitter
Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy) to go up 18-10. Gonzalez also produced back-to-back kills to clinch the set and the match for Lehman.
For the contest, Aquino tallied a double-double with 19 kills and 18 digs. Gonzalez added 12 kills with 10 digs and four service aces. Sophomore middle blocker
Lindsay Pantaleon (New York, N.Y./George Washington) added six kills and 10 digs. Dubois scored three aces and tallied 29 assists, while sophomore defensive specialist
Lizette Medina (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) added two assists of her own.
In Lehman's (4-4, 1-1 CUNYAC) loss to Baruch, set scores were 25-8, 25-7, and 25-10. Aquino added 12 more digs to lead the Lightning.
Lehman will travel to Staten Island on Tuesday, to battle the Dolphins in another CUNYAC match. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
