Brens Free Throw in Closing Seconds Provides Margin of Victory.

Box Score

New York, NY - John Brens ended the game with six points but none was bigger than his final point of the game.  The sophomore drained one of two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to propel the Lightning to a 70-69 victory over the Beavers of City College at Nat Holman Gymnasium.  With the CUNYAC victory Lehman improves to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the CUNYAC.  CCNY falls to 6-5:2-3.

Chaun Miller and Niv Solomon each registered a double double for Lehman as the Lightning have won nine of their last ten.  Miller netted 20 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.  Solomon tallied 20 points while bringing down 12 rebounds.

The first half was a tight back and forth affair that featured four ties.  The Beavers were able to pull away to lead 31-21 with just under four minutes to play in the half.  However, Lehman rallied to score the final seven points of the half to cut the deficit to 31-28.

Three minutes into the second half, a Solomon free throw tied the game at 35.  However the Beavers would respond with six straight points of their own.  The Lightning would briefly take the lead but the Beavers would once again respond.  With just under three minutes to play and the Beavers owning a 67-61 lead, the Lightning would score the next eight points; back to back traditional three point plays by Solomon and Brens as well as a pair of free throws by Andrew Utate gave Lehman a short lived 69-67 advantage with just under a minute to play.  City responded with a lay-up on their ensuring possession to tie the game at 69 before Brens hit the game winner from the charity stripe.
Khalil Hamer paced the Beavers with 16 points.

The Beavers shot in the closing seconds was off the mark.  CCNY will travel to CSI on Tuesday.  The Lightning return to action on Saturday afternoon, also at the College of Staten Island.
