Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – After putting together a nice rally in the third to nearly force a fourth set, the Lehman College lost to the College of New Rochelle in straight sets, 3-0 (15-25, 4-25, 21-25), Thursday night at the APEX Center.
For the Lightning (4-17),
Salveira Gonzalez slammed a team-high seven kills along with a service ace, while
Caitlin Vernon added four kills and three blocks.
Lindsay Pantaleon chipped in with three kills and a team-best two aces, and
Samantha Delgado recorded 12 assists in a losing effort.
New Rochelle (13-9) was led by Imani Debose who powered 10 kills in the win. Tiany Perez and Caitlin Harrison each secured five aces each, while Stephanie Garcia and Brianna Garcia each added 11 digs in the victory.
The first set went back and forth to start with Lehman moving ahead 9-5, but the Blue Angels rattled off eight straight points to recapture the lead and would not relinquish it in the 25-15 set win. New Rochelle dominated the second set, scoring 16 of the last 17 points to cruise to a 25-4 victory.
In the third, the Lightning would fall behind 18-10 but would capitalize on some New Rochelle errors to chip away at the deficit. Six straight points led by a Gonzalez kill and five errors got the crowd back into it at 23-20 with a chance to move to a fourth set. But a service error and a Debose kill closed out the victory for the Blue Angels.
Up next for Lehman is a road matchup against nonconference opponent The College of Old Westbury Monday night in Long Island. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
