Flushing, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's tennis team advanced in the CUNYAC Championships, defeating the College of the Staten Island in the semifinals, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Lightning (14-1) set a school record with their 13th consecutive victory on the season. They will now move onto the CUNYAC Finals for the first time in program history, where they will take on Baruch College.
In singles action,
Sacha Espiritu earned the win in No. 1 play.
Lizaveta Markouskaya secured the victory at the No. 2 spot, while
Mami Aoki (6-2, 6-2) won in straight sets at the No. 3 position.
Lynessa George defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4 and
Kantomalala Rasedoara grabbed a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 spot.
On the doubles side, the team of Espiritu/Markouskaya (8-3) along with Rasedoara/George (8-3) and Aoki/
Elizaveta Ostanina (8-6) all secured victories to seal the victory.
Lehman will seek a CUNYAC championship Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
