Brooklyn, NY – The Lehman College (4-12) women's volleyball team dropped their ninth in a row falling in five sets to St. Joseph's –Brooklyn. The Lady Bears now stand at 5-4.
The Lightning fell in the opening set 25-18 but rallied to tie the match by winning the second set 25-22. The Bears would win the third set 25-18 but it was all Lehman in the fourth set as the Lightning prevailed 25-15. St Joseph's would seal the deal in the final set with a 15-7 victory.
Salveira Gonzalez led the Lightning with 13 kills and 15 digs.
Samantha Delgado was credited with 26 assists while
Yaidee Nieves recorded 30 digs.
Lehman jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set but could not hold on as the Bears rallied by scoring the next seven points and never look back.
The second set was a back and forth affair. With the set tied at 14, the Lightning went on a 5-1 to take control. The Bears rallied to tie the set at 22 but Lehman received back-to-back-to back kills from Gonzalez to earn the set and tie the match.
In the third set, the Lightning again jumped out to an early lead. With Lehman leading 12-9 the Bears scored the next seven points. Lehman was able to cut the deficit to two (17-15) but were unable to get any closer.
The fourth set was all Lehman as the Lightning rolled to a 25-15 victory to tie the match at two sets apiece.
In the fifth and final set, the Bears pulled ahead 9-2 and easily went on to a 15-7 victory and win the match 3-2.
The Lightning will return to the APEX on Thursday night to face Rutgers-Newark at 7:00 PM. Lehman has played their last six matches away from home.
