Kean, NJ – For the third straight match the Lightning come out on top as Lehman traveled to Kean University (NJ) and came away with a 5-4 victory.
The Lightning started the day dropping two of the three doubles matches. All three doubles were highly contested. The Lightning duo of
Sacha Espirtu and
Lizaveta Markouskaya prevailed 9-8; 7-3 in the tie breaker. At second doubles the Lightning were on the wrong side of an 8-5 decision. In the highly entertaining match at third doubles
Mami Aoki and
Elizaveta Ostanina fell 9-8; 7-6 in the tie breaker.
The Lightning earned the victory by winning for of the six singles matches. At number one, Lehman's Espirtu prevailed 6-2, 6-1. But Kean took second singles 6-4, 6-2. Aoki, Markouskaya and Kanto Rasedoara all won in the 3-5 spots. Aoki's match went three sets. The sophomore dropped the first set 6-3 but rallied to win 6-0, 6-2. Markouskaya and Rasedoara won 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-4 respectively. Kean won the match at sixth singles.
Lehman is now 4-1 on the season. Kean falls to 2-3.
The Lightning will return home to conference play on Wednesday afternoon to face York.
