The Lehman College women's tennis team fell 5-3 to fourth seed John Jay in the opening round of the CUNYAC post season tennis tournament.
On a gorgeous autumn afternoon the fifth seeded Lightning and Bloodhounds took to the courts at the USTA National Tennis Center. As is customary, the match began with three doubles competition. The Lightning prevailed at first doubles as the team of
Sacha Espiritu and
Lizaveta Markouskaya defeated their opponents 8-6. Lehman fell at second doubles 8-1 and at third doubles 8-5. In the singles competition John Jay extended their lead to 4-1 after they were victorious at third and fourth singles. Lehman cut the deficit to 4-2 after
Yohara Molineros prevailed in the sixth spot winning 6-4, 6-1. The Lightning then cut the deficit to one after Espiritu dominated her opponent 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. The deciding match occurred at second singles as Markouskaya was bested by her opponent 6-2, 6-4.
It was the second time in 12 days that Lehman fell to John Jay in women's tennis.
The Lightning ended their season with a record of 4-12.
