Box Score New York – The Lehman College men's basketball team opened CUNYAC play with an 87-49 victory over CCNY in the CUNYAC opener played at CCNY on Friday night. The team improved to 3-2 on the season and has scored 80 or more points in every game this season. Four Lightning players reached double-figures in scoring and all 16 members of the team saw playing time in this contest.
Lehman opened the game with a 12-0 run in the first 5:40 of action. The Beavers opened the game by making a technical free throw prior to the tipoff. After the tip, the Lightning rattled off 12 straight points to take a 12-1 lead.
Jean Marcial scored the first seven points.
Clinton Akalonu added a foul shot to make it 8-1. Back-to-back baskets from
Ja-Zhyoun Laing capped the run. CCNY fought back to pull within three points, 24-21, but Lehman responded and got the advantage up to as much as 16 points courtesy of an Akalonu layup with a minute left. The Lightning led at the half, 41-29.
2:50 into the second half and Lehman had the advantage up to 20, when an
Andrew Utate three-pointer made the score 49-29. The lead grew from there and a
Tommy Batista steal and layup with 4:24 left put the Lightning up 37, 79-42. Their largest lead of the game was the final basket, a
Dominek Tucker bucket that the made the final score 87-49.
In the win, Marcial shot 8-11 and had 18 points.
Luis Hernandez had 12 points and six assists.
Mylo Mitchell finished with 11. Laing came off the bench to score 13 on 5-6 shooting.
The Lehman College men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, December 5, when they face John Jay at 8PM.
