Bronx, NY - Despite six kills by Izzy Galan and five by
Caitlin Vernon the Lightning (0-3) women's volleyball team came out on the short end of a 3-0 decision against Maritime (2-0). The Privateers prevailed 25-21, 25-22 and 25-12.
Samantha Delgado added 10 assists and
Paulette Sepulveda registered 10 digs.
In the opening set the Privateers jumped out to a 5-1 lead but the Lightning rallied to take a 6-5 lead. With the score tied at seven, Maritime ran off three straight points to take a 10-7 advantage which they would not relinquish. The second set was a back and forth affair. With the teams deadlocked at 18, the Privateers went on a 5-0 run to take control. Lehman would score the next three points but would not get any closer. The third set, was all Maritime.
The Lightning return to action on Saturday as they begin conference play. Lehman will face Baruch at 10:00 AM and John Jay at noon. Both matches will be contested in the Dog Pound at John Jay.
