The Lehman College Student Athlete Advisory Committee has announced three programs to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Movie night - "Pelo Malo" - October 1
"Pelo Malo" means "bad hair" in Spanish. It's a term that is commonly used in Latin America, and it's also the title of a Venezuelan film that tackles racism and homophobia. It is a film that gives a rare look into identity politics among Latin Americans, where racism is often a taboo topic.

Movie Night - "In The Heights" - October 15
A story about immigrants coming to terms with cultural and physical adaptation. A sympathetic New York bodega owner saves every penny every day as he imagines and sings about a better life. Dreams of returning to his island and restoring his late father's business in the Dominican Republic, and juxiposed with an intent on helping the immigrant community of Washington Heights, NYC. The streets are made of music, and as the temperature rises, the film highlights youthful, sun-kissed optimism.
