Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's tennis team captured its first victory of the season on Wednesday, defeating visiting University of Mount St. Vincent 7-0 in a non-conference match at The APEX Courts. With the sweep, the Lightning move to 1-6 overall, while the Dolphins fall to 0-3.
Lehman set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches before carrying that momentum into a dominant singles performance.
At No. 1 singles,
Gabriela Vargas led the charge with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win over Alyssa Mendoza. The Lightning also showed great resilience in a pair of three-set thrillers:
Amya Sanchez battled past Zoe Fields 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 at the No. 2 spot, while
Patricia Santiago-Montes earned her second collegiate singles victory with a gritty 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 win over Kayla Wallack at No. 3.
Elizabeth Nlemchukwu kept the momentum rolling at No. 4 singles, defeating Jadamarie Henry 6-2, 6-1.
Ndeye (Awa) Ndiaye and
Mamie Kolley rounded out the singles sweep, securing decisive wins at No. 5 (6-1, 6-0) and No. 6 (6-0, 6-0) against Naomi Green and Alison Rodriguez, respectively.
The Lightning return to action on Tuesday, October 6, traveling to face York College (NY) in a CUNYAC matchup at 3 pm ET.
