Box Score
The Lehman College soccer team (4-11 Overall, 3-4 CUNYAC), playing in their first game in seven days, picked up a non-conference victory, defeating the Berkeley College of New York Knights by a score of 3-0 Wednesday evening at the South Field in the Bronx.
The Lightning played perhaps their most balanced game of the season in picking up the non-conference win. The game stayed scoreless until the 14th minute when, at the 13:01 mark, Amirouche Ait-Hamouda slipped a ball past Knight netminder Jonathan Graneros to give his team an early 1-0 advantage. The Lightning would add to that lead as Daniel Brentuo would put home a blast at 34:00 to up the Lehman College advantage to 2-0. That score would hold over the ensuing 11 minutes as the Lightning went into halftime up two goals.
In the second half, both teams battled for 43 grueling minutes, but neither team was able to net a goal. Finally, at 88:07, Lehman would put an exclamation point on a very impressive victory as Olavo De Paula would net a goal, as the Lightning upped their lead to 3-0. Junior Galeas picked up the assist on the goal.
Lehman College netminder Michael Hintze was brilliant in net again, posting his third shutout of the season while making five saves. Despite the loss for the Knights, Graneros made four saves.
For the game, each team blasted 17 shots and were called for 10 fouls.
The Lightning will return to action on Saturday afternoon as Lehman will take on the Hunter College Hawks in a CUNYAC contest, with start time scheduled for noon. The battle will take place at the South Field, but Lehman will serve as the visiting team for the contest.
