MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO SKYLINE POWER SUNY FARMINGDALE 10-1 IN SEASON OPENER

The Lehman College men's soccer team (0-1 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) was turned back in its season opener earlier this afternoon, falling to the SUNY Farmingdale Rams (1-0 Overall, 0-0 Skyline) by a score of 10-1 in Farmingdale, NY.

The Rams put significant distance between themselves and Lehman in the early stages of the game, netting four goals in the first 19:36 of the contest, including a pair of scores by Nick Pancotto. The Lightning would pick up a milestone score, however, as newcomer Olavo De Paula would slip a ball past Farmingdale goalie Patrick Gubbins at the 21:01 mark. The goal served as the first for the Lightning in a varsity contest since the last time Lehman College fielded a varsity unit – back in the late 90's. Standout Daniel Brentuo picked up the assist on the goal.

The Lightning failed to gain momentum after the tally, however, as the Rams would net three additional goals in the final 23:59 of the period, taking a 7-1 lead into the half. Not much changed in the second half, with Farmingdale tacking on three more goals and going on for the nine-goal victory.

Ryan Paul led the way for Farmingdale, scoring a game-high three goals. Pancotto and Frank Volante added two goals a piece in the victory as well, and Rams goalie Patrick Gubbins allowed just one goal, facing only two shots.

Lehman College will return to action on Thursday evening as the team plays its home opener under the lights against the Yeshiva University Maccabees, with game-time scheduled for 7:00pm. The contest will serve as the first game in which Lehman's South Field's lights will be in use.
