WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM PICKS UP HARD-FOUGHT VICTORY OVER CCNY ON THE ROAD

Box Score

The Lehman College women's basketball team (7-11 Overall, 5-2 CUNYAC) won its second consecutive game as the Lightning defeated the Beavers of the City College of New York (5-12 Overall, 3-5 CUNYAC) by a score of 82-77 Saturday afternoon at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in upper Manhattan.

In the win for Lehman, the Lightning were paced by the stellar performance of freshman Tiana Rosa who posted another double-double as she contributed team-highs of 17 points and 17 rebounds while blocking a pair of shots and connecting on seven of her 12 shot attempts. In addition, standout Leslie Mencia added 17 points (6-14 FG) to go along with six rebounds, and senior Kelsey Ash netted 14 points and dished four assists. Also, Melissa St. Louis and Paula Robinson both scored in double figures for Lehman, with St. Louis finishing her afternoon with 13 points, and Robinson ending the day with 10. Following the victory, head coach Eric Harrison gave his thoughts on the win.

"It was nice to see us grind out a victory in a tough environment," Harrison said. "CCNY is a team constructed of players that don't quit, and they certainly played to the very end here today. We did a good job of holding them off, but as a whole, I felt we used great teamwork today in this win. Hopefully we'll keep this going on Wednesday at City Tech."

Despite the loss for the Beavers of the City College of New York, it was Ashley Straughn and Rynae Rasley each putting forth fine performances, as Straughn netted 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Rasley dropped in 21 points and dished seven assists. Donika Rexhepi added 12 points and five boards as well.

The teams went toe to toe in many categories. The Lightning shot 37 percent from the floor (27-73) for the game, while CCNY shot just a tad better, hitting on 23 of their 56 shots (41 percent). The Beavers held a 43-42 edge in the rebounding department, and CCNY swatted three shots to Lehman's two. The Lightning won the turnover battle, committing 20 compared to 22 for CCNY, and Lehman also tallied 11 steals to the Beavers' seven. The Lightning hit on 21 of their 34 attempts from the charity stripe while CCNY made good on 26 of their 37 attempts.

Lehman College will return to action on Wednesday evening as the Lightning will travel to Brooklyn to battle the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology, with game-time scheduled for 5:00pm.
