Lightning Take the Fight Out of Bulldogs in Win

For a few days at least, all is right again in the world of Lehman Lightning soccer following their 4-2 win Saturday afternoon against CUNYAC rival Brooklyn College.

In what has so far been a topsy turvy men's soccer season, both for Lehman and overall in the CUNYAC, the Lightning rebounded from a disappointing loss to the College of Staten Island, who were beaten earlier in the season by the Bulldogs, to move to 3-1-1 in the conference and remain in striking distance of first place Baruch.

Freshman Gilherme Silva got the day started on a positive note for the Lightning in the 43rd minute when he corralled a rebound off Brooklyn keeper Stamatis Boundouris and put it home. The freshman's third goal of the season gave the Lighting the early 1-0 lead.

Early in the second half, Brooklyn's Jonathan Whitehead notched the equalizer in the 48th minute on a pass from Igor Kozlov. The goal was the first on the year for the junior defenseman from Brooklyn.

In the game's 50th minute, Silva took advantage of another bounding ball off Boundouris to slam home the go ahead and eventual winning goal to give Lehman the 2-1 advantage.

The Lightning's dangerous freshman forward Assami Valian gave his team some breathing room in the 63rd minute. Capitalizing on a turnover by the Brooklyn defense, Valian sent one past Boundouris to stretch the Lightning lead to 3-1.

A late goal by Kozlov got Brooklyn back within striking distance at 3-2, but Lehman's Geovanny Arredondo sealed the deal on a cross from Alex Linde in the 82nd minute for the final 4-2 margin. With his goal today, Arredondo now leads the Lighting with five on the season.

The Lightning take a one game break from the CUNYAC schedule to battle with New Jersey City University on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. across the Hudson.
