MEN'S VOLLEYBALL PICKS UP VICTORY OVER POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY THURSDAY NIGHT

The Lehman College men's volleyball team (2-3 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC) picked up an impressive victory on Thursday evening, using a balanced effort to defeat Polytechnic University Fighting Blue Jays (0-5 Overall) by scores of 30-28, 30-21, and 30-25 at the Jacobs Gymnasium.

 

In the victory for Lehman College, Kelvis Castro put forth a phenomenal effort for the Lightning as he tallied 12 kills while hitting .381 on the evening. He also tallied five digs and a pair of block assists. Nate Martin contributed to the win with 14 kills (and a .417 hitting percentage) to go along with five digs and three services aces, and RJ LeBlanc hit .321 on the night while collecting 14 kills and tallying 13 digs. Finally, it was Angel Fernandez recording 41 assists. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena was very proud of his team's effort.

 

“This was a terrific victory for us tonight because so many different players contributed,” Lucena said. “We've been improving with each passing match, and it's great to head into Saturday's multi-match with some momentum.”

 

Despite the loss for Polytechnic University, Joe Gabor tallied a team-high 14 kills to go along with six digs and two service aces, and James Lukban added 11 kills and four digs. Also, it was James Um adding 30 assists and four digs.

 

For the evening, the Lightning hit .326 while Polytechnic University hit .322. Lehman College had 46 kills for the night and the Fighting Blue Jays had 37.

 

The Lehman College men's volleyball team will return to action on Saturday as the Lightning will travel to York College to participate in a CUNYAC multi-match. Lehman College will battle Brooklyn College at 9:00am before taking on Baruch College at 1:00pm.
