Bronx Battle Produces Lehman Loss

With an important stretch of CUNYAC opponents looming on the horizon for the Lehman College Lightning, Coach Joe Andre certainly wanted to see his troops playing at their peak performance levels before starting their intraconference battles.

Instead he will have to help them rebound in a hurry after the Lightning dropped a 3-0 decision to SUNY Maritime on Monday night.

The Privateers of the Skyline Conference wasted no time setting the tone as David Sparozic converted on a header in the fourth minute to put Maritime up 1-0.

Maritime continued the attack in the 28th minute when some fine defensive work and nifty passing by Tom Federico led to a goal by teammate Haluk Erdogen, who converted the 2-on-1 to help the Privateers open up a two goal advantage.

The final tally of the night came in the 37th minute on a header by John Blunden off a corner kick from Jason Tursi.

Lehman had several chances to convert late in the second half but could not put the ball past second string goalkeeper John Dunne.

The Lightning plays the first of four consecutive CUNYAC matches beginning on Wednesday versus Medgar Evers.
