Lightning and Cougars Battle to 1-1 Stalemate

Following two consecutive losses Coach Andre was looking for improved effort from his club.

On Wednesday afternoon he got it against CUNYAC rival Medgar Evers (4-3-1, overall, 0-1-1 CUNYAC).

Though the final result was a 1-1 tie, Andre was more than pleased with the spirit shown by his team.

“Everyone played well,” said Andre. “I couldn't have asked for anything more, especially playing a bit shorthanded.”

Scoreless through the first half, Medgar Evers struck in the 64th minute when James Maynard capitalized on a misplayed ball back to keeper Marcos Coto-Batres to give the Cougars the advantage.

Counterattacking sophomore defenseman Thaddeus Ikwuka answered for Lehman in the 75th minute to knot the score at 1-1. The shot, a blast from 25 yards, was one that caught the attention of Andre.

“Thaddeus has good vision,” said Andre. “Most don't strike from that distance but he saw an opportunity and got a good leg on it.”

Unable to capitalize on several additional quality chances in the game's final minutes, Lehman was content to add a tie to the record books, where they now sit at 2-5-1 but 1-0-1 in the conference.

Another CUNYAC encounter looms for Lehman, with the Lightning traveling to John Jay on Saturday.
