Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman men's soccer team did on Wednesday afternoon what No. 1 seeds are supposed to do when facing the No. 8 seed – win handily.

Receiving goals from five different players, the Lightning blanked the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins 5-0 in impressive fashion in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Championships, setting up a semifinal showdown with either John Jay or Hunter on Saturday afternoon.

Lehman's Guihounou Guede got the scoring started for the Lightning in the fourth minute of action when he buried a shot from straight on into the lower right hand corner of the net for the early 1-0 lead.  Godson Ahiadu and Jonathan Moallem struck in the 26th and 34th minutes of play to push the Lightning's lead to 3-0 before the end of the half.

Through 45 minutes of play not only did the Lightning dominate the scoreboard, but it did a superb job of keeping action away from keeper Marcos Coto-Batres, who didn't face his first shot on goal until the second half.

The Lightning continued to pour it on in the second half with Momar Thiam notching a goal in the 52nd minute to push Lehman's lead to 4-0.  In the 69th minute, Will Arbieto-Lopez capped the offensive onslaught when he scored on a bending free kick that found the top right corner of the net for the 5-0 advantage.

For the match Lehman was incredibly efficient offensively with five of its nine shots on goal finding the back of the net.

Saturday's semifinal match is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the campus of the College of Staten Island.  Any Lightning fans looking to make the trip can obtain free tickets to the match by clicking on the link below.
