On a blustery, cold day more fit for football than baseball, the Lehman Lightning took both ends of a doubleheader against Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Maccabees 8-3 and 6-4 to improve its record to 3-1 on the season.

The Lightning got on the board in the first inning of game one as Jhon Comas Disla plated George Flores with a booming double to centefield. One inning later, Disla added another double that scored Jeremy Lopez and Flores as part of a five run frame that also included an RBI hit by Flores, giving the Lightning a 6-0 lead. Lehman added single runs in the fourth and fifth to complete its run total.

Lehman started Brian Cubero was sharp in his three innings of work, allowing only a single hit while striking out six. Freshman Brandon Negron followed Cubero and was credited with the win.

Disla finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Justin Moises and Ignacio Rodriguez each collected two hits.

In the second game, the Lightning once again posted a five spot in an inning, only this time it came in the first. Lopez, Moises, Onix Mejia and Negron all contributed run scoring base hits, with Mejia driving in two on his knock, as the Lightning took advantage of two Yeshiva errors to take an early lead.

Lehman added a run in the second on an RBI double by Disla before watching the Maccabees pull to within 6-4 with runs in three straight innings from the third through the fifth. After Lightning hurler David Gaffney got in a little trouble in the top of the fifth, head coach John Foster turned to Alberto Alicea to close the door, which he did with two and two thirds innings of scoreless, hitless relief to pick up the win.

Lopez was the hitting star of the second game, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Lehman is back in action on Tuesday when it takes on Drew University on the South Field.
