Box Score
Through five innings of Sunday's afternoon tilt between Lehman and the College of Staten Island, Lightning starter
Jhon Comas Disla had allowed the Dolphins three runs, but was able to wiggle himself and his team out of potentially much more as CSI left seven on base.
Comas Disla's replacement,
Francisco Sanchez, wasn't so lucky.
After getting two quick outs to start the sixth inning, Sanchez allowed a single to Bryan Moreno. The next batter, Henry Roman, lofted a sky high pop near the area of the infield cut out between first and second that was misplayed by the Lightning, allowing Roman to reach and Moreno to advance to third. The error also kept the inning alive and opened the floodgates for the Dolphins.
Before the third out was finally recorded, CSI had turned the miscue into 10 runs on four walks, two hit batters, a wild pitch and four hits, including a 2-run, ground rule double by Pat Gale that capped the scoring against Arturo Lazaro, who replaced Sanchez.
The big lead allowed Dolphins' starter James Mardikos to go six innings for the win, as he scattered three hits and struck out seven.
To the Lightning's credit, Lehman did not give away any at bats as the game wore on despite the large deficit, instead plating four runs in the seventh inning. The big blow came off the bat of
Christian Fadul, who clubbed a 3-run double to left centerfield that cleared the bases and provided the final 13-4 margin.
Raul Cordero and
Justin Moises each collected two hits for the Lightning in addition to Fadul's two-hit day.
Comas Disla falls to 1-1 on the season, with the Lightning dropping to 4-8 overall.
Lehman returns to action on Tuesday night, when it will travel to SUNY Maritime for a 7 p.m. start.
