Box Score
The Lehman Lightning baseball team saw its losing streak extended to six games on Wednesday night as it dropped to 4-9 overall after a 7-0 loss to host SUNY Maritime.
The visiting Lightning had a chance to jump on the board first in the top of the third, but was thwarted when
Christian Fadul was thrown out at home on
Jeremy Perez's base hit by Privateers' centerfielder Matthew Montanes.
In the bottom of the inning, following singles by Ed Martinez and Jonathan Proscia, the Privateers cashed in without the luxury of another hit as two errors, a run-scoring walk, a hit batter, and a wild pitch all contributed to add up to a four run inning for Maritime.
Lehman would have chances to get back in the game, putting two runners on in the fourth and loading the bases in the fifth, but ultimately could not get the clutch hit needed off Privateers' hurler Red Burke. The Maritime sophomore ended up going the distance, allowing eight hits while striking out nine to earn his second win of the season.
Arturo Lazaro took the loss for the Lightning, as he allowed five runs (two earned) over his four innings of work.
Jeremy Perez enjoyed a two hit day for Lehman.
Lehman gets back to conference action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts a doubleheader against John Jay College.
